Kerry Washington Wisely Wore Giambattista Valli Again Last Night

Unlike Sydney Leathers, Scandal star Kerry Washington kicked off the week on a bright note by wearing this red-and-white patterned ensemble by Giambattista Valli to Disney/ABC's annual TCA party in Los Angeles. The 36-year-old beauty was there to celebrate Scandal's upcoming third season and her much-deserved Emmy nomination. She looked beautiful.

Self-Help Ideas To Optimize Your Quality Of Life - ProjectPB ? The ...

How about taking a few minutes of your time in order to learn simple steps on improving the rest of your life? If you pay attention to what we have to say, that is what this article can do for you. Read the tips and tricks that we have provided for you, so that you can start to reach your true potential.

Happiness is often lost to stress. Being subjected to sustained and extreme stress can have negative mental and physical repercussions. Stress is an obstacle to accomplishing one?s goal. Set a relaxation time every single day to be alone and clear your mind. This mental break each day will improve your peace and clarity of mind, and help improve your self-image.

Get as much work done as you can during the day. One trick to doing this, is to take more breaks. Although this seems counterproductive, taking regular breaks is good because it gives you the chance to recharge your mind, so when you resume work, you?ll be able to get more done.

TIP! Live your life according to your values. Everyone has basic principles by which they define themselves.

Regardless of your surroundings, you should be ready to record ideas when they come to mind. Carry a notebook and pen in your pocket everywhere. Make detailed notes, and later, when you have the chance and are feeling creative, take your ideas further.

Create a self improvement plan by determining what your personal values are. It wouldn?t make sense to develop a trait that was contrary to who you are. When you change your attitude and perspective, difficult situations become easier to manage. This enables you to make lasting changes in your life, both in a personal and a professional capacity.

By taking care of your physical health, you will be helping every area of personal development. Not getting enough sleep, getting a lot of exercise, and eating well can help you stay on top of your game, and help you win at personal development. Although this is simple advice, it is perhaps one of the hardest things that we can master.

TIP! Look for the things you admire or appreciate about others and give them compliments. You can reverse the process, though.

A crucial part of any self improvement program is to take special care in providing for your own physical needs. Getting enough sleep, having a healthy diet, and exercising regularly are simple activities that keep energy high, and it gives you a better chance at being successful with your self improvement. While it may sound simple, this is sometimes one of the most difficult things to do.

Write a pep talk about yourself. Take some time to write down a few of the good things that you love about yourself and keep it on a exotic postcard. Always keep it on you, and read it whenever you need a boost. For even more powerful results, record a video of yourself reading your list and watch it frequently. The reason to watch the video or read the postcard as often as possible is to remind yourself of how wonderful you think you are.

TIP! Have a special account for emergencies. It appears as though every time something unexpected happens, we charge more to our credit cards.

Start an emergency fund. It appears as though every time something unexpected happens, we charge more to our credit cards. Putting a few dollars a week into an emergency fund will add up over time. This ?rainy day fund? gives the security of knowing we can manage our expenses and pay off our debts.

Instead of bragging about your accomplishments, ask those around you about what they are most proud of and what they?ve achieved. People will appreciate your company more, and you will find new common points of interests between you and your friends.

Unless you are self-sufficient, you cannot expect to be able to care for another person. If you are a huge success, but dead tired all the time, you are not properly taking care of yourself. You need to find time for rest.

TIP! A better diet can help you get rid of depression; try eating more complex carbohydrates. Adding complex carbohydrates can help keep your body?s serotonin level up.

No matter what another person?s position in life may be, remember to always treat them with respect. The way you deal with people speaks volumes about your character.

Take a trip with a buddy to the movie theater as a method of conquering anxiety. You will be out and about, but not in a setting that requires a lot of social interaction. This will help get you used to being in the same vicinity with lots of different people.

If you experience anxiety in social situations, ask a friend to join you at the movie theater. You will be out and about but not have to socialize as much. This will also help you to become comfortable in settings that involve crowds.

TIP! If you see yourself failing to reach goals, then you need to analyze the situation to figure out what the problem is. You can take time to research your goals, and see how others have achieved the same accomplishments.

You can learn to effectively handle your emotions, even during difficult situations. If you learn to stay calm during stressful times, you will have the confidence you need to face almost anything in your life. Above all, remember to take a second and breathe deeply before confronting any stressful situation.

Try to get more organized. Not only will being organized make you feel accomplished, but it will also boost your confidence. Additionally, your life will be less stressful because you no longer have to deal with disorganization. Adding structure to your life will bring you peace.

Try to determine what things matter most in your life and devote your attention to them. Many peoples? focus tends to wander to negative things and worries. Check in with yourself and focus on the things that are positive. The result will be much greater inner calm and peace.

TIP! Make an honest effort to become more organized. You will feel accomplished and your mind will feel clearer.

Hopefully, the information provided will prove useful to you or your loved ones. Through carefully applying this advice to your life, you will see positive changes that will benefit you for years to come. Making a commitment to developing yourself with dedication can pay off in a big way.

Blue widgets is a complex topic, which is why you should take the time to research it some more. This article, luckily, is exactly what you need for that. Now is the time to take the knowledge you have gained and apply it to your life!

Latin American asset management: Bram targets US after Japan?s appetite wanes

Bradesco Asset Management (Bram) has established a US subsidiary and has begun to build relationships with distribution managers in the US and Canada to sell Bram?s proprietary funds to north American institutional investors.

Despite outflows from emerging markets funds in recent weeks, Bradesco expects that Bram US (which was registered with the SEC as an investment adviser in the first quarter of 2013) will be able to tap into US appetite for Latin American assets, especially at a time when the continent?s currencies, which are falling against the dollar as global markets anticipate higher interest rates in the US, are creating an attractive entry point to the region.

"We are going to create funds domiciled for the US and Canadian investors," says Luiz Osorio, head of international business development at Bram. "The idea is to bring funds that we already have in the local market in order to be able to show a track record to investors." The funds are expected to be available to investors in north America in the fourth quarter.

Four alternatives

Osorio says Bram US will begin with four fund alternatives: one will be a hard-currency fixed-income fund and the other three will be equity funds. Bram already has a hard-currency fixed-income fund for its European clients, which is 70% invested in Latin American corporates (mainly investment grade) and 30% in sovereign bonds. In the past year the fund returned 9.7% in dollar terms.

Osorio also says the equity funds should attract interest because he believes the sell-off in Brazilian equities generally has been overdone, as well as there still being opportunities for stock-picking fund managers to generate alpha.

The Bovespa has become increasingly split in the past year between consumer- and infrastructure-focused stocks that are performing well and the index, which is dominated by poorly performing commodity-oriented stocks. Despite the high valuations of many of the former type of equities, Osorio says there are still opportunities that should attract US investors.

"The PE multiples are high but there are still companies that our research team thinks will see growth. We have to be really selective ? it?s not all consumer-oriented companies ? but there are a number that we think will grow 30% this year and maybe 20% next year," says Osorio. "In the next two years we?re expecting 50% to 60% growth that hasn?t yet been priced in." He adds that Bram also has a fund focused on the small-mid cap theme in Brazil.

Bram?s US initiative builds on its growth in Asia, and specifically in Japan, where the Brazilian asset manager has a marketing relationship with Mitsubishi UFJ Asset Management.

However, Bram?s regional diversification is in part a result of the lower growth opportunities in this market in the medium term.

Bram offers only local-currency funds in Asia because the investors in the region have typically liked the currency-risk element of Brazilian investments.

"When we first started going to Japan four years ago I was surprised by the amount of currency exposure there was to the real," says Osorio. "They had about R$30 billion [$13.5 billion] in real assets and another R$50 billion in other assets swapped to our currency. This is one of the reasons why [recently] they have reduced interest in Brazil ? they are overweight in Brazil and some have suffered a lot with the [recent devaluation]."

Joaquim Levy, CEO at Bram, says it is important that the asset manager, which has $144 billion under management, can present itself as a genuinely pan-regional institution in order to attract new funds from the international markets.

"Our product is Brazil and Latin America. We understand that we will find it difficult to focus only on Brazil ? except in the case of Japan and [those interested in a niche, Brazilian] product," says Levy. "That?s one of the reasons why we are focusing on a Latin American fund (which launched in early 2013). Bradesco has opened and is growing in Mexico, for example, and that is something that will derive a lot of value, because within a Latin American-wide fund there are some things that are not so correlated. You have Brazil, Chile and Mexico. One is driven by the US, another by copper and the other by a lot of other things."

International appeal

As well as trying to broaden its regional base to capture international capital flows to asset managers in Latin America, Bram is broadening its international assets to appeal to Brazilian investors that want to diversify a portion of their portfolios to assets outside Brazil.

Bram established a Brazilian depositary receipts (BDR) fund in January 2012 that has already attracted R$200 million. The fund gives Brazilians investors (and Bram reports private banking clients have been the early adopters, rather than institutional clients) exposure to US equities through local onshore investment vehicles.

Southington American Legion takes aim at state baseball crown

    Thursday, August 1, 2013 10:21 PM EDT

The Southington American Legion senior baseball team is taking a historic trip to Stamford this weekend.

For the second time in its history, Post 72 will play for the Legion state championship. Southington (24-5) opens a best-of-three series against a powerful Branford team (30-1) today at 6:30 p.m. at Cubetta Stadium. The second game of the series is scheduled for Saturday at 11 a.m. If the third game is necessary, it will be at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Southington last reached the championship in 1993, when it beat Meriden Post 45.

?It means the world to me to be where we are,? Post 72 coach Marc Verderame said. ?It?s always been my dream to be in a state championship, and to have a chance to win one for our town is something we are all looking forward to.?

Southington started its run to the championship series with a 14-3 mercy rule win over Willimantic on July 22 in the second round of the Northern Sectionals, which were held at Fuessenich Park in Torrington. Post 72 advanced out of the sectionals by holding off RCP 7-6 on July 23.

Southington began play in the Torrington Regional with a 4-1 win over New London on July 27. Post 72 followed that victory up with a 10-5 win over Montville on July 28. Southington took the day off on July 29, then came back to blast Enfield 12-2 in a mercy rule-shortened contest on July 30 to advance out of the Torrington Regional.

Branford?s only loss this season was to Hamden in the second game of a doubleheader on July 6. Branford won a single game in the Southern Sectionals in Stamford before winning three straight in the Stamford Regional to reach the championship series. Branford has allowed just seven runs in four games.

Verderame said the key to Southington?s success this season has been good pitching and an aggressive offense.

?Our team ERA is under 3 and we have had 115 stolen bases in 26 games (3 wins were forfeits),? Verderame said. ?We have a great group of players who have performed really well. We struggled a bit closing out games during the season, but we are getting right at the right time.?

Southington has stolen 25 bases in 30 attempts in its first five postseason games. Ted Shaw and Brett Shaw each have five stolen bases. Ted Shaw?s ability to get on base has sparked Post 72?s offense.

?Ted Shaw has been our MVP,? Verderame said. ?He is in my opinion the best defensive shortstop in the state and he is batting over .450 this year.?

Ted Shaw has been even hotter during the postseason, hitting at a ridiculous .632 clip. He has 10 runs scored, along with two doubles, a triple, a home run, and three walks.

Ted Shaw isn?t the only hitter doing damage for Southington.

Brett Shaw is at .300 in the No. 2 spot in the lineup with two doubles, a home run, five RBI, six runs scored and four walks. Matt Sirois is hitting .474 with a double, eight RBI and five runs scored. Matt DiNello, the team?s No. 3 hitter, is right behind Sirois at .438 with seven RBI, nine runs scored, three stolen bases and six walks. Dave Palladino is hitting .316, but he leads the team with nine RBI and three doubles.

On the mound, Joe Rivera and Craig Frobel have two wins each. Brett Susi has the other victory while Andrew Goralski logged a save against New London. DiNello also saw time on the mound.

?You need to have at least four great pitchers to win this thing, and this year that is what we have,? Verderame said. ?Our fifth starter Joe Daigle threw a no-hitter this year. That?s how deep we are.?

Rivera has allowed just one run on six hits in 14 innings to go along with 14 strikeouts and seven walks this postseason.

Dealing with adversity has been key for Southington. Post 72 saw late leads get away in regular season losses to Avon and Bristol.

?For a lot of teams that might ruin a season,? Verderame said. ?For us it just made us stronger.?

In the RCP game, Southington saw leads of 5-0 and 7-4 trimmed to one run because of errors, but was able to hold on and move on in the postseason. Verderame believes the ability to persevere in close games could be a big key against a Branford team that outscored its opponents 151-15 during the regular season. Branford may be a very difficult opponent, but Southington is ready.

?I think that we have the best team in the state,? Verderame said. ?We have been through the ups and downs and we have battled back. I don?t think anyone expected us to win five games to get here, but here we are.?

The final leg of the championship race begins this evening.

Amendment Would Bar United Nations Drones From U.S. Airspace

Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Texas) wants to make sure that the United Nations won't be able to fly drones in American airspace anytime soon.

The House Foreign Affairs Committee on Thursday approved his amendment on a bill funding the State Department that would bar the U.N. from using American money set aside for international peacekeeping activities to fly drones in U.S. airspace.

McCaul has been a staunch opponent of allowing drones in the U.S., though he supports unmanned aircraft use abroad and on U.S. borders. At a hearing last year for the House Homeland Security Subcommittee on Oversight, Investigations and Management, he expressed concern that drones will "dominate the skies" in the U.S. once the Federal Aviation Administration incorporates them into national airspace.

"Civilian unmanned aerial systems can be hacked into and hijacked with a relatively small investment of money and time," McCaul said at the hearing. "These findings are alarming and have revealed a gaping hole in the security of using unmanned aerial systems domestically."

The House does not have much to worry about when it comes to U.N. use of lethal drone strikes during peacekeeping missions, as those missions don't occur on U.S. soil. And the U.N. has only recently looked into drones to help with peacekeeping missions, purchasing one from an Italian company to use in the Democratic Republic of Congo as part of a pilot program. Online sales complement brick-and-mortar retail, Harry Rosen CEO ...

TORONTO ? Larry Rosen is amused by Richard Baker?s assertion that no luxury specialty stores in Canada sell their wares online.

?We have been online for four years, and it is growing very quickly ? [the business] doubled last year,? the chief executive of menswear chain Harry Rosen said Thursday.

?Perhaps Mr. Baker doesn?t consider menswear to be a part of the luxury market,? he chuckled.

But Mr. Rosen does agree with a strategic insight the Hudson?s Bay Co. CEO, who announced a deal to buy U.S. luxury chain Saks Inc. this week, has made repeatedly about selling goods online: that online sales tend to enhance and drive interest in the bricks-and-mortar business, rather than cannibalizing it.

It?s a strategy HBC liked about Saks, whose research showed consumers wanted to access the retailer on multiple platforms, including online and mobile devices. Like HBC, Saks has been investing heavily in its ?omni-channel? to integrate all modes.

At Toronto-based Harry Rosen, the online business ?strongly complements? the company?s business at 16 bricks and mortar stores, Mr. Rosen said.

?We find that a lot of our customers shop at both,? he said. ?People are also doing tons of research online, coming in to our stores and saying ?I saw this item online and can you show it to me?? It is not uncommon for a person to buy a bunch of sportswear online and some shirts and ties and then three weeks later he will be in the store buying something else.?

With a shifting assortment of about 4,000 SKUs such as $395 Ermenegildo Zegna dress shirts and a $940 pair of Salvatore Ferragamo black calfskin oxfords, Harry Rosen?s online sales channel now accounts for 2% of its annual revenue of just under $300-million. That could top out at about 5% or 10% over time, Mr. Rosen predicts.

The 59-year-old company, whose sales have grown at about 10% annually for the past five years, is equally focused on expanding and upgrading its store square footage, to 375,000 from a current 275,000, doubling the size of some of its premiere locations.

?There is a huge advantage in having a bricks and mortar business,? Mr. Rosen said. ?Most people are still pretty tactile, they don?t want to order something unseen ? that?s the nature of apparel. In the States it used to be that there were a lot of pure e-players, and now [online apparel sales] are dominated by the department stores. People like to know there is something physical behind it.?

Harry Rosen?s expansion comes as Nordstrom prepares to open its first stores in Canada in 2014 and 2015. News of more impending competition came this week when Mr. Baker announced he would open seven high-end Saks stores in Canada.

Luxury department store chain Holt Renfrew has also been on an expansion tear in a bid to boost its square footage by 40%, and launched its outlet-store offspring, HR2, this spring.

Florida Man Carrying Air Rifle, Jermaine McBean, Shot and Killed by Sheriff?s Deputy

On Wednesday afternoon, 33 year-old Jermaine McBean, an infrastructure engineer at Zimmerman Advertising, was walking back to his apartment when a Sheriff?s deputy reportedly ordered him to lower his weapon. McBean allegedly refused. The deputy then shot and killed McBean.

McBean's ?weapon? was a Winchester Model 1000 Air Rifle.

According to CBS, earlier today, the Broward Sheriff?s Office divulged the identity of the victim. His neighbors are shocked and appalled.

?It?s very bizarre,? says neighbor Kevin Hall. "He?d be about his business. He?d smile and get on his bike and take off. I didn?t catch anything that made me think he was odd.?

?He?s a good guy,? says another neighbor, Carlos Ferraira, who shared McBean?s love of cars.??We never had a problem.?

Oddly enough, the deputy who shot McBean is a 12-year BSO veteran. Meanwhile, the department is conducting an investigation into the shooting while the deputy has been placed on administrative assignment.

NFL Hall of Fame: Warren Sapp through the years

Warren Sapp was the cornerstone of the late 1990s and early 2000s Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The dominant defenses flourished because the prototypical three-technique dominated in the trenches and forced his teammates to play at a higher level.

On Saturday, the big man will be just the second Tampa Bay Buccaneer to ever enter the Hall of Fame, after the late, great Lee Roy Selmon. Sapp's big mouth and abrasive off-field ways may not have endeared him to everyone, but he was one of the best players the Buccaneers have ever seen.

Click through the gallery above to see him in all his glory. Sacks, tackles, smiles, frowns and tears -- it's all there. From his days with the Miami Hurricanes, through the glory years with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the frustration with the Oakland Raiders and his days as a broadcaster.

'Franklin & Bash's' Jane Seymour on Heather Locklear liplock; hookers vs sex surrogates

    By Tony Maglio

LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - Jane Seymour continues her limited story arc on TNT's "Franklin & Bash" Wednesday night, where she needs the title characters to get her acquitted of a prostitution charge.

Seymour plays Coleen Bash, the mother of Peter (Mark-Paul Gosselaar), who happens to be a sex surrogate.

TheWrap spoke with the one-time "Bond" girl about her unique career as an actress and designer, how closely she keeps up with the "Bond" films and what it's like kissing Heather Locklear. Yes, that happens in Wednesday's episode.

The interview began with Seymour explaining her role as the TNT comedy-drama's first sex surrogate - which is not to be confused with a hooker, according to her on-camera son and attorney. In the episode, Seymour is arrested for being a lady of the night, though it's not quite the same job. She explains what goes down in the show:

Seymour: When come to get her out of jail, all the other prostitutes in jail think, "Oh, that's cool, we'll be sex surrogates too." So really the episode is about how they tried to defend and understand what it is she actually did and is doing ... It's very funny and needless to say the two guys banter with one another, and Peter is completely teased by his partner for having a mother who is a sex surrogate.

Then at one point in the office I see Heather Locklear's character, Rachel King, and I find out from a conversation over a glass of wine she hasn't had sex in six years, so I just decide to kiss her and see if there's any life in her.

TheWrap: Well that won't hurt ratings, I imagine.

Seymour: It won't hurt ratings, and all I can say is if I tell you any more I'll spoil the episode. But they say - and I haven't seen the final episode yet - that it's one of the funniest they've had in the series.

    TheWrap: Good kisser?

Seymour: I think you have to wait and see!

TheWrap: So what is the difference between a prostitute and a sex surrogate, just so I understand this?

Seymour: Prostitutes always have sex with their subjects and sex surrogates don't. You have to see the episode to understand it, but a sex surrogate is someone who is paid to help someone with their sexual issues.

TheWrap: You've had such a varied career with a number of iconic roles, what are you most recognized for?

Seymour: The younger generation would say "Wedding Crashers," unless their parents forced them to watch "Dr. Quinn." Everyone for some reason still knows me as a "Bond" girl, which I find amusing, and then "Somewhere in Time" of course. More and more people are falling in love with that movie long after it came out. I meet people all the time - especially men - who are obsessed with that movie. I mean, they don't watch it once, they watch it 15 times. It's a bit of a sickness.

TheWrap: The residual checks don't hurt I'm sure.

Seymour: I don't get a penny from it. But I did have the great pleasure of working with Christopher Reeves on that one, which was lovely. I've been doing a lot of comedy recently which I really enjoy. I just did something in England with Greg Wise and James Fox called "The Unknown Heart," but I'm not sure when that's coming out here. I keep working.

Garbage Truck Financing - Business Loans - Specialty Programs ...

Garbage trucks are a unique and expensive purchase, but one that is fundamental if you plan to start your own sanitation business. You will need the services of a finance company that understands the sanitation business and is experienced in financing these types of specialty vehicles. Liberty Financial Group, Inc. provides direct financing and leasing for all types of essential new and used commercial equipment and specializes in the transportation industry.

Unlike its competitors, Liberty Financial Group is creative and flexible ? offering nontraditional structures and special programs when appropriate. Banks or traditional financial institutions are typically not be willing to finance garbage trucks because they are unique in nature and have very distinct purposes.

Different types of garbage trucks include:

    1. Rear Loader Truck ? The most common type of garbage vehicle, it transports waste in its rear. The waste needs to be dumped into the truck by service workers.
    1. Front Loader Truck ? a garbage truck which has fork like structure at its front. These forks help lifting the garbage bin to deposit wastes inside the container in the truck. The truck can contain large portions of wastes since they compress them tightly inside the container.
    1. Roll Off Truck ? This type performs the same function of other garbage trucks, however it also has the capacity to raise its bed and roll off the container on to an unloading area. At the same time, another container would be put on the truck to accept another load of waste. Due to this special functionality, this type of truck is a particularly expensive investment for a fledgling sanitation business.
    1. Grapple Truck ? This truck has the ability to haul heavy wastes by using a grappling arm to lift the bulk waste and empty the garbage bins. The truck is particularly rugged and strong.
    1. Recycling Truck ? Very similar to other garbage trucks, but with the capacity to accept specialized waste products such as glass, asphalt, plastic, paper, etc.
    1. Side Loader Truck - This type of garbage truck accepts waste in its sides. It is built with special narrow design in order to carry waste in residential areas, and even inside buildings such as warehouses.

Garbage trucks are essential to start a sanitation company. However, due to their unique nature and expense, many financial institutions are hesitant to finance garbage trucks. Liberty Financial Group is different. The representatives at Liberty Financial Group will work closely with you to create financing or leasing programs which best meet the specific needs of the waste management industry. ?To learn more call today 1-888-883-4480 or email?sales@libertyfg.com.

Air Canada rouge Service Expands to More Holiday Destinations ...

MONTREAL, June 25, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ ? Air Canada today said that growth of its leisure carrier subsidiary, Air Canada rouge, is on track to expand to a total of 23 holiday destinations in the Caribbean, Mexico, Florida and Las Vegas for its 2013-2014 winter season.

?We are delighted with the response to Air Canada rouge?s inaugural summer season as it prepares for take-off July 1st,? said Calin Rovinescu, President and Chief Executive Officer, in Toronto for a pre-inaugural event with employees and media. ?Our plans for growing the Air Canada rouge fleet are on track to serve more holiday destination markets where we can now compete on a more cost effective basis operating our new leisure carrier, while leveraging the strength of Air Canada Vacations. Once Air Canada rouge completes its inaugural summer season to Edinburgh, Venice, Athens and a number of Caribbean destinations, its flying will expand southward for the winter to an additional 13 destinations in the Caribbean, Mexico and select U.S. holiday markets. I would like to commend Michael Friisdahl and his team at Air Canada rouge for overcoming the complexity and challenges of launching a new carrier in record time with professionalism and an impressive sense of purpose. I also congratulate the first Air Canada rouge inflight graduating class who we expect will set an excellent customer service standard for vacation travel.?

?As new Boeing 777-300ER and 787 aircraft enter the Air Canada mainline fleet, we intend to continue spooling up Air Canada rouge to reach a total of up to 50 aircraft. The growth of our leisure carrier, in tandem with the mainline fleet renewal and international network expansion, is a key element of Air Canada?s overall strategy for sustainable, profitable growth, both at the mainline and leisure carrier. With a renewed, more efficient fleet combined with our award-winning product, Air Canada will be well positioned to expand its mainline global network to new, higher business-demand destinations while Air Canada rouge profitably expands Air Canada?s presence on a lower cost basis in current and future leisure markets that present new opportunities,? concluded Mr. Rovinescu.

Air Canada will take delivery of five new Boeing 777-300ER aircraft for its mainline fleet between June 2013 and February 2014, and the first three of 37 Boeing 787 aircraft by the summer of 2014. Air Canada is scheduled to take delivery of seven 787 aircraft in 2014 and the remaining 30 between 2015 and 2019.

Air Canada rouge?s July 1 start-up fleet consisting of two Airbus A319 aircraft and two Boeing 767-300ER aircraft will grow to ten aircraft by the end of 2013 with the addition of six Airbus A319 aircraft by December 2013, and an additional four Airbus A319 aircraft by March 2014, for a total of 14 aircraft by the end of the 2013-2014 winter season.

A number of popular holiday destinations currently served by Air Canada?s mainline carrier will be converted to Air Canada rouge service on a phased-in basis beginning October 2013 through March 2014 as additional aircraft are released by the mainline airline for operation by its leisure carrier.

Air Canada rouge will operate flights to the following popular holiday destinations for its 2013-2014 Winter Schedule. Flights are now available for purchase at aircanada.com and through travel agents:

Mexico: flights from Toronto to Cancun, Puerto Vallarta*, Cabo San Lucas* and Huatulco*, subject to government approval.

United States: flights from Toronto and Montreal to Orlando and Las Vegas, and from Toronto to Sarasota*, Florida.

Caribbean: flights from Toronto to Montego Bay, Jamaica; Grenada*; St. Kitts*; Grand Exuma, Bahamas; Curacao*, Netherlands Antilles; and La Romana*, Dominican Republic. This is in addition to Air Canada rouge service commencing with its summer 2013 schedule on July 1 from Toronto year-round to 10 Caribbean and Central America destinations: Kingston, Jamaica; the Dominican Republic (Punta Cana, Puerto Plata and Samana), Cuba (Varadero, Cayo Coco, Holguin and Santa Clara) and Costa Rica (San Jose and Liberia).

    * Seasonal services where indicated. All other routes are year-round services.

All flights will be operated using Airbus A319 aircraft, with the exception of Toronto-Las Vegas and Toronto-Montego Bay flights that will be operated with Boeing 767-300ER aircraft.

Air Canada rouge?s Boeing 767-300ER aircraft feature a two-cabin configuration with three customer comfort options including rouge, rouge Plus with preferred seating with additional legroom, and, beginning in winter 2013, Premium rouge offering both additional room and enhanced service. The airline?s Airbus A319 aircraft are configured with rouge and rouge Plus preferred seating. All flights will offer customers streamed wireless inflight entertainment, stylish and modern cabin interiors with innovative new seats, and the ability to earn and redeem Aeroplan miles. Comfortable cruise to Tokyo to be a reality - Stuff

The tourism industry is welcoming Air New Zealand's announcement that its new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft will fly to the key long-haul destinations of Shanghai and Tokyo.

Air New Zealand is the launch customer for the 787-9, the stretch version of the Dreamliner, which is due to roll off the production line at Boeing's Seattle plant next month.

The national carrier expects to have the first of its 10 new 787-9s flying by the middle of next year, with the rest in operation over the following three years.

The airline has said the Dreamliner will be a game-changer, opening up the prospect of expanding its network of routes around the Pacific Rim.

Yesterday it announced the new fuel-efficient aircraft would fly Auckland-Shanghai and Auckland-Tokyo, and also service some mid-haul destinations such as Perth, Honolulu and Papeete.

Tourism Industry Association policy and research manager Simon Wallace said China was a key growth market for New Zealand, with Chinese visitor numbers up 27 per cent in the past year.

The Japanese market was also recovering well from the slump following the 2011 tsunami.

"It's good Air New Zealand has focused the new aircraft on where the growth is coming from," he said. "It's all about a superior visitor experience."

Putting the Dreamliner on these routes with its four seat classes - Business Premier, Premium Economy, Economy and the Kiwi-designed Skycouch - demonstrated New Zealand's commitment to attracting high-value Chinese travellers.

It will be the first time the Skycouch has been available on routes into Asia, Air New Zealand said. "It just helps to give us that competitive advantage, which we really need," Wallace said.

Air New Zealand and Tourism New Zealand have just signed a one-year partnership to spend $10 million each jointly promoting travel to this country in selected key markets, including China, Japan, North America and Australia.

This year Air New Zealand began operating daily return services to Tokyo and Shanghai in response to strong demand.

How Well Do You Know Your Fish Fillet? Even Chefs Can Be Fooled

In the world of seafood, looks can be very deceiving. And unfortunately for anyone who buys fish, it's easy for people above you in the supply chain to sell you something other than what you want.

Oceana, a conservation group, has been beating the drum about seafood mislabeling for a while. Back in February, the organization released a study that found that 33 percent of the seafood it sampled at retail outlets in 21 states was mislabeled. (Note: The sampling was not randomized, so the findings should be taken with a grain of salt.)

This month, Oceana hosted a dinner with the National Aquarium in Washington, D.C., to prove once again how easy it is to become a victim of seafood fraud.

"It's nearly impossible for anyone ? even experts ? to tell the difference between many species of fish," Beth Lowell, Oceana's campaign director, tells The Salt.

(From top) Oceana paired wild salmon, red snapper and halibut, all on the left, with other fish that look remarkably similar to demonstrate how easy it would be to mislabel them.

The event began with a raw fish guessing game. Kimberly Warner, Oceana's senior scientist, stood with a clipboard and pen by a large silver bowl filled with ice and six glistening fillets of fish. The objective? To correctly identify wild salmon, red snapper and halibut paired with almost doppelgangers beside them.

Many of the guests were flummoxed by the task. Listen to how some made up their minds:

The undecided included chef Xavier Deshayes of the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center, who had prepared the meal we would soon eat. At first, Deschayes told me that he doesn't fall victim to mislabeling because he uses only purveyors that he trusts.

But as soon as he saw the two coral-colored fillets of salmon on the ice, he admitted that he didn't know which one was wild. "It's a lot easier to tell when you're looking at a whole fish instead of a fillet," he said.

Steve Vilnit, director of fisheries marketing for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, said he struggled with the snapper. "The sinew in the meat ... I'm thinking, but I don't know; that's a tough one."

After most guests had tried their hand at identifying the raw fillets, we sat down to a meal of some of the most commonly mislabeled fish species: grouper, salmon and red snapper. Each course featured two equally sized pieces of fish prepared in exactly the same way.

Diners' knowledge of frequently mislabeled fish was tested with an escabeche-style grouper, left, paired with an escabeche-style weakfish, right, and potatoes between them.

The first was grouper, cooked escabeche-style, and paired with potato salad. Its lookalike, Oceana's Lowell eventually told us, was a virtually indistinguishable piece of weakfish. In the February report, the group had found that 11 of the 44 samples of grouper, or 25 percent, were mislabeled.

Next up was the salmon course, with farm-raised salmon pitted against its wild counterpart. Listen to some of the guests' reactions:

Dehayes told me that farm-raised salmon has thicker layers of fat, and that the additional fat gives it a moister, more buttery texture. "I prefer farmed salmon to wild salmon, because wild salmon gets so dry when you cook it," he said. That turned out to be a helpful tip when it came time to taste the fish. The fish on the right felt apart in my mouth so easily, while the fish on the left, while delicious, was firmer and had a stronger, fishier taste. It was the wild salmon.

Lastly, we tasted red snapper, alongside a typical imposter: tilapia. Red snapper is the most commonly mislabeled fish, according to the Oceana report: Only seven of the 120 samples the group purchased and sampled were actually red snapper.

The prevalence of mislabeled red snapper gives consumers a distorted view of its availability, says Lowell. Another downside is that fishermen who are trying manage red snapper fisheries sustainably, like the ones in the Gulf Wild program who manage the catch in the Gulf of Mexico, have to compete against double-dealers who may have different priorities.

The snapper that Dehayes had prepared was covered in a chimichurri crust and served with fresh corn polenta. Although the snapper and tilapia had slightly different textures, strong spices made it tough to tell the two apart. It was easy to see why diners are so often tricked.

So who's to blame for all this mislabeling? According to Oceana, it's really hard to tell. It could be happening in the boat, during processing, at the wholesale level, at the retail counter or somewhere else along the way. But as Deshayes notes, if you're eating fraudulent fish at a restaurant, it may not be the fault of the chef.

Many chefs, especially those running large operations, buy fish that's already been filleted to save time. So that makes it harder for even the sharpest-eyed among them to spot imposters in the kitchen.

To stop mislabeling, Oceana would like to see an international traceability system to inform consumers where and when a fish was caught and what gear was used. But political support for such a system, which would be costly, has been tepid.

The seafood industry ? one of the least transparent in the food system ? has a long way to go before it can become more accountable to consumers. So in the meantime, ask chefs about which retail outlets they trust, and sharpen those senses.
