The Sun News 2015: Obasanjo, Bankole, Daniel in different camps

From MOSHOOD ADEBAYO, Abeokuta

Politicians in Ogun State have started to set the tune for the 2015 general elections with individuals and political groups already pitching tents. One of such is the former speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole leading members of different political parties to the home of the Awolowos in Ikenne to commiserate with the family on the death of the publisher of the Tribune Newspapers, Chief Olusegun Awolowo.

On his entourage was Senator Lekan Mustapha, who represented the Ogun East Senatorial District in the last political dispensation on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Also on the entourage was Dave Salako, a member of the House of Representatives in the same political dispensation. Other politicians, who accompanied Bankole on the condolence visit, were three incumbent lawmakers in the state House of Assembly.

They are John Obafemi of the Peoples Party of Nigeria (PPN), Job Akintan, of the PDP and a factional leader in the state House of Assembly, Remmy Hazzan. Only penultimate Sunday, attempts were made to broker peace between former president Olusegun Obasanjo and the erstwhile governor of the state, Otunba Gbenga Daniel. Although Daniel was not at the meeting, which took place at the Obasanjo Hill Top residence, sources close to the meeting told Daily Sun that Obasanjo was finding it difficult to forgive Daniel.

In a related development, it was gathered that a prominent member of the ruling Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), who was one of those tipped to run for the gubernatorial candidate from the Ogun West Senatorial District was also living no stone unturned to clinch the ticket. It was said that he was making moves in the Labour Party to the dislike of the party?s leadership in a bid to clinch the party?s gubernatorial ticket.

Also in the gubernatorial race is the PPN candidate in the last general election, Mr. Gbenga Nasir Isiaka (GNI). An aide close to GNI confided in Daily Sun that he was interested in the race. ??GNI is interested in the race and he is living no stone unturned for it. All things being equalled, he will emerge the gubernatorial candidate of one of the parties in the state.??
